Need lyrics....HELP - There were three wooden crosses on one lonely hill

Post by BabyD » Fri Apr 03, 2009 4:49 pm

I'm new here, so I would like to say hello to everyone, and I hope that someone can help me. I heard a song on the radio, and my husband and I fell in love with it. I don't know who sings it, and I'm not quite sure of the title. But the chorus starts out like this:
There were three wooden crosses on one lonely hill. Two men were guilty, but three men were killed....
And that's all I can remember

THREE RUGGED CROSSES

(D) (A) (C) (G)
(D) THREE RUGGED CROSSES, ON (A) ONE LONELY HILL;
(C) TWO MEN WERE GUILTY, (G) THREE MEN WERE KILLED.
(D) THREE MEN WERE BURIED, AND (A) TWO MEN ARE STILL.
SOME-(C)-WHERE NEAR THOSE THREE RUGGED (G) CROSSES,
ON ONE LONELY (D) HILL.

I'VE (C) ADDED IT UP, AND (D) STILL DON'T KNOW WHY;
AN (G) INNOCENT (D) MAN, WOULD BE (G) CHOSEN TO (D) DIE.
A (C) CROSS IS A PLACE, WHERE A (D) SINNER SHOULD BE;
(F) TWO MEN SHOULD BE THERE, SO (G) WHY DO I (A) SEE.

(D) THREE RUGGED CROSSES, ON (A) ONE LONELY HILL;
(C) TWO MEN WERE GUILTY, (G) THREE MEN WERE KILLED.
(D) THREE MEN WERE BURIED, AND (A) TWO MEN ARE STILL.
SOME-(C)-WHERE NEAR THOSE THREE RUGGED (G) CROSSES,
ON ONE LONELY (D) HILL.

WHEN I (C) THINK OF BARABAS, I (D) THINK ABOUT ME;
AND (G) ALL OF US (D) WHO SHOULD HAVE (G) DIED ON THAT (D) TREE.
BUT (C) JESUS WAS BORN, JUST TO (D) BE CRUSIFIED;
IF (F) I WERE TO LIVE, THEN (G) HE HAD TO (D) DIE.

(D) THREE RUGGED CROSSES, ON (A) ONE LONELY HILL;
(C) TWO MEN WERE GUILTY, (G) THREE MEN WERE KILLED.
(D) THREE MEN WERE BURIED, AND (A) TWO MEN ARE STILL.
SOME-(C)-WHERE NEAR THOSE THREE RUGGED (G) CROSSES,
ON ONE LONELY (D) HILL.

(D) THREE RUGGED CROSSES, ON (A) ONE LONELY HILL;
(C) TWO MEN WERE GUILTY, (G) THREE MEN WERE KILLED.
(D) THREE MEN WERE BURIED, AND (A) TWO MEN ARE STILL.
SOME-(C)-WHERE NEAR THOSE THREE RUGGED (G) CROSSES,
ON ONE LONELY (D) HILL.

I DON'T RECALL HOW I FOUND THE LYRICS, BUT I DO REMEMBER IT TOOK A LONG WHILE. THERE ARE SOME SONGS THAT I AM NOT BASHFUL TO CONTACT THE WRITER OR SINGER IF ALL ELSE FAILS. YOU WOULD BE SURPRISED AT HOW THEY WILL HELP. ANYWAY, I'M GLAD THAT I COULD HELP YOU ON THIS ONE. IT IS A BEAUTIFUL SONG. THE CORDS ARE WHAT I SING THE SONG IN, SO YOU MAY NEED TO CHANGE THEM TO SUIT YOUR STYLE. GOD BLESS.

Does Randy sing that one.
I know he sings "Three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway" because I sang it at church .

C Am F
A farmer and a teacher, a hooker and a preacher, ridin' on a
C G
midnight bus, bound for Mexico.
C Am
One was headed for vacation, one for higher education, and
F G C
two of them were searchin' for lost souls.
F G F
That driver never, ever saw the stopsign, and eighteen-
G
wheelers can't stop on a dime.

Chorus:
C Am
There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway.
F C G
Why there's not four of them heaven only knows.
C Am
I guess it's not what you take when you leave this world behind you.
F G C
It's what you leave behind you when you go.

That farmer left a harvest, a home and eighty acres, a faith and love for
growin' things in his young son's heart.
And that teacher left her wisdom in the minds of lots of children and did
her best to give'm all a better start.
And that preacher whispered, "Can't you see the promised land?"as he laid
his blood-stained Bible in that hooker's hand.

Chorus:

Am F C
G
That's a story that our preacher told last Sunday, as he held that
blood-stained Bible up for all

of us to see. He said,
C Am F
"Bless the farmer and the teacher and the preacher
C G
who gave this Bible to my mama, who read it to me."

There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway.
Why there's not four of them, now I guess we know.
It's not what you take when you leave this world behind you.
It's what you leave behind you when you go.

C Am C
There are three wooden crosses on the right side of the highway.
