Are these the words you are loking for?

The sun is shining brightly
The trees are clothed with green
The beauteous bloom of flowers
On ev'ry side is seen
And all the world is gay
For 'tis the month of Mary
The lovely month of May

There's music in the heavens
For birds are singing there
And nature's songs and praises
Are sounding through the air
With joy we'll sing today
For 'tis the month of Mary
The lovely month of May

And when night closes o'er us
And twinkling stars appear
The chaste moon calmly reigneth
In skies so bright and clear
In heaven far away
There reigns o'er saints and angels
Our lovely Queen of May

This May hymn to Our Lady comes from the Parochial Hymn Book, published 1883, the complete words are as follows:

1. The sun is shining brightly,
The trees are clothed with green,
The beauteous bloom of flowers
On every side is seen.
The fields are gold and emerald,
And all the world is gay;
For 'tis the month of Mary,
The lovely month of May.

Refrain:

O Mary, dear Mother,
We sing a hymn to thee;
Thou art the Queen of Heaven,
Thou too, our Queen shalt be.
Oh! rule us and guide us
Unto eternity.

2. There's music in the heavens,
For birds are singing there;
And nature's songs and praises
Are sounding through the air;
And we, with hearts o'erflowing
With joy, will sing to-day;
For 'tis the month of Mary,
The lovely month of May.

3. And when night closes o'er us,
And twinkling stars appear;
The chaste moon calmly reigneth,
In skies so bright and clear.
Oh, how that sight reminds us
Of heaven far away,
Where reigns o'er saints and angels,
Our lovely Queen of May.

Words: A Sister of Notre Dame
Music: Rev F. Robinson

I believe that the Parochial Hymn Book has now been reprinted and you can find a copy of it on Amazon. Hope that this is of help.

I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THE WORDS OF THIS HYMN FOR YEARS, I REMEMBER IT FROM MY PRIMARY SCHOOL DAYS IN THE EARLY 60'S. IT BRINGS ME GREAT JOY TO HAVE FOUND IT.

MANY THANKS

I like the second suggestion better though it seems to have been using a few words repeated again and again though nothing wrong with that.

I also like to incorporation of Mary to the song though it might not have any direct correlation to how the song would mean. But never the less, it has fewer sort of mistakes as compared to the earlier one.

Dear Guest (above posting by dlarry),

I am happy that I have helped you in finding the words of the hymn! I have this wonderful hymn book "Parochial Hymn Book" that is where the hymn first makes its appearance and a great many other hymns to Mary to be sung during the month of May and at other times. In the original versions there are a great many other verses which have now been cut out in modern hymn books and the great May hymn "Bring flowers of the rarest" has originally 6 verses and a chorus to be sung during the month of May and a chorus to be sung during the rest of the year. Please do not hesitate (or anyone else for that matter) to contact me by email if there is another older hymn you wish to find again that does not appear in the modern hymn books - both words and music - and I shall do my very best to help.

This is a wonderful hymn. I too remember it from the 1960s singing it in school. It brought great joy and energy to my soul?
