Descant lyrics for Silent Night

Post by Guest » Sun Dec 13, 2009 3:12 am

I know I am not crazy. When we were in the choir at church, we sang Silent Night, and there was a descant. All I can find is an instrumental version.

The words for one of the verses were:
O'er the moonlit plains were angels winging
See their robes of glistening gold
Reflecting a celestial light.
Silent, silent night. Holy, holy night
Sleep in peace, sleep in heavenly peace
In peace.

Anyone know the words to the other verses, or
know where I might find them?

Thanks so much!

I learned it back in the 60's as-Neath the silent stars the town is sleeping, flocks are safe within the fold, secure from danger, want and cold. Silent, silent night. Holy, Holy night. Sleep in peace, sleep in heavenly peace,in peace. It was so lovely!

I'm very interested in the 2nd verse. The first as I know it is:
'Neath the silent stars our town is sleeping
Shepherds on the hill their flocks are keeping
Their flocks are safe within the hold
Secure from danger one and all
Silent, silent night
Holy holy night
Sleep in peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
In peace

Learned it in 5th grade-45 years or so ago--

V.1
Neath the silent stars a town is sleeping
Flocks are safe within the fold
Secure from danger want or cold

chorus

Silent, Silent night
Holy, Holy night
Sleep in peace
Sleep in heavenly peace, sleep peace

v. 2

O're the moonlit plain are angels winging
See their robes of glittering gold
Reflecting the celestial light
Chorus

Silent, Silent night
Holy, Holy night
Sleep in peace
Sleep in heavenly peace, sleep peace

Descant lyrics for Silent Night

I too sang Silent Night in church choir and one of the ladies sang the descant. I can only remember bits of the melody and now have the lyrics above. Does anyone know where I could access the entire melody?

In the silent night the town is sleeping,
Flocks are safe within the fold,
Secure from danger want or cold.
Silent, Silent night.
Holy, Holy night.
Sleep in peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
In Peace.
