THEY WERE WALKING MY LORD UP CALVARY'S HILL

Key A

(A) On the cross as He hung and in (D) shame was for- (A) saken,
As (D) they drove the (A) nails in His hands and His (E7) feet,
As (A) death closed his eyes, His (D) cries went to (A) heaven,
Oh! (D) Father for- (A) give them I (E7) hear Him re- (A) peat.

Chorus
One (D) morning past day break, as the crowd slowly (A) gathered,
Like a sheep He was humble, to His Father's own (E7) will,
So (D)sad was His face that, the birds stopped their (A) singing,
They were walking my Lord up (E7) Calvary's (A) hill.

(A) In a tomb He was laid but (D) death could not (A) hurt Him,
He was (D) God's only (A) son in this world be- (E7) low,
On the (A) cross He fulfilled the (D) plan of sal- (A) vation,
I (D) want to thank (A) Jesus for He's (E7) coming a- (A) gain.

Repeat chorus

I found another lyric to this song
third verse is: I want to thank Jesus for the plan of salvation
To say, Lord, I love You for You understand
I want to be there on that great judgement morning
To kiss of the nail prints in His feet and His hands

we sang for years only singing the first two original verses, but i when i finally ran across this verse one day, i really liked the last line and we've been adding it since. God Bless....debbie
