The Little Carpenter

Post by mlsouth » Sat Mar 28, 2009 12:04 am

I heard a song once and kind find it anywhere the chorus went something like this:

I'm going to build a ship, a ship to sail the seas
I'm going to build a great big bridge, gonna build it from a tree
I'm going to build a mansion, for all my friends to dwell
Then away went the little Carpenter, with his wood, a hammer and a nail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My sister and I would sing that song for our grandpa, He always loved to hear it. I can't remember the first verse but the second was...

It was hard for me to realize as I watched the crowd that day, that this was the little carpenter that I had seen at play and as they crucified him up there on Calvary, It seems the words he spoke to me, seems I hear them srtill...

The first verse goes

The first time I saw Him,
He was just a little tot,
trying to help as best he could
there in Joseph's shop.
I said 'son, what are you building?'
as I watched Him there at play
then the little carpenter turned to me to say

Andy, thank you so much for posting this song. You have know idea what this song means to me. My dad and I sang this song together when I was a little boy. This is one of my favorite memories as a child. I've often looked for this song on YouTube, and I thank God that I've found it, and it's because of you. My dad passed a few years ago, so now I have something I can listen to and always remember my daddy. Thank you so much. My name is Jonathan Matthew Varnes. You can find me on facebook.
