I CAN ALMOST SEE THE LIGHTS OF HOME
by Belinda Johnson

John tells of a city that he saw coming down
Where no sorrow, pain or death will be known;
And some day we can go there, through His marvellous grace;
I can almost see the lights of home.

Oh, I can almost see the lights of that city,
I can see them gathered all around the great white throne;
Through faith in my Saviour and His wonderful love,
I can almost see the lights of home.

Well, some times I'm so burdened and my cross is hard to bear,
And old Satan tries to dim my view;
Then I just look up to Jesus, He is standing close by;
And once again His great love shines on through.

Oh, I can almost see the lights of that city,
I can see them gathered all around the great white throne;
Through faith in my Saviour and His wonderful love,
I can almost see the lights of home.

Through faith in my Saviour, and His wonderful love,
I can almost see the lights of home.

It goes something more like this

i can see the lights of home
i can see Him on the throne
and i'm to near to turn back now
oh praise the lord, I'm heaven bound
................................................................
i'll say good by to this world of sin etc

The name of the song is Gloryland. It may have more than one verse, but that is all we ever sang then repeated the Chorus twice:

Is the road you're traveling, dark, deserted or dim
Is there hope for tomorrow? Put your trust in Him
On this Glory road I'm traveling
Many times I've stumbled on my way
But Praise the Lord I'll soon be leaving,
To that land of perfect peace and endless day

I can see the lights of home,
I can see Him on His throng
I'm too near to turn back now,
Oh praise the Lord, I'm heaven bond
When my journey here shall end,
I'll say good bye to a world of sin
In that fair land, I'll take my stand
It's so good to be on this road for gloryland

The name of the song is not gloryland, but rather The Glory Road. I remember hearing a local quartet sing it and this was the corresponding title on their cassette tape. Musically structured, it is composed of 4 strains with 4 lines each as follows:

Is the road that you are traveling
Dark, deserted on the way,
Is there hope for tomorrow?
Put your trust in Him.

On this glory road I'm traveling
Many times I've stumbled on the way
But praise the Lord I'll soon be leaving
For that land of perfect peace and endless day

I can see the lights of home
I can see God on His throne
I'm to near to turn back now
Oh praise the Lord, I am heaven bound.

When this journey here shall end,
I'll say goodbye to a world of sin.
In that fair land I'll take my stand,
It's good to be on this road for glory land.

According to another post on this site, it was written by Conrad Cook of the Calvary Echos when he sang with the Kingsmen.
