I need help with the lyrics to this song. It was extremely popular in the Pentecostal/Holiness churches from the 1950’s to the 1970’s. I know there are many more verses and variations of the chorus than what I have typed out, I just can’t remember them. Below is all the lyrics I can remember. At the bottom there is a link the song.
Traveling shoes!
Lord, I got on my traveling shoes!
Traveling shoes!
I got on my traveling shoes!
(x2)
I can travel now!
I got on my traveling shoes!
Can you travel now?
I got on my traveling shoes!
(x2)
Feel all right now!
I got on my traveling shoes!
Feel all right now!
I got on my traveling shoes!
(x2)
I’ve been tempted, I’ve been tried,
But I’ve been to the river and I’ve been baptized.
That old water was chilly and cold,
It chilled my body but not my soul!
I got a mother in that promised land,
I ain’t gonna stop until I shake her hand.
I’m not so particular ‘bout shaking her hand,
I just want to make it to the promised land!
Once I was lost, lost in sin,
Along came Jesus He took me in.
I don’t know what He is too you,
But He’s alright with Me!
Now one of these mornings it won’t be long,
You’ll look for me but I’ll be gone.
Gone to Heaven gonna sing and shout,
There’ll be nobody there to turn me out!
