One of these days she'll hear old Gabriel play
Sorry I don't have much info on this song but if anyone knows the lyrics and who possibly sing it, it would be wonderful.
Here's the lyrics I know;
Chorus 1
One of these days she'll hear old Gabriel play and she'll just fly away
No she'll never again feel pain
One of these days
Thank for any help you can give.
May God bless you.

I know it's been a while, but I am still trying to find this song.

Hi Ladypup,
If we're going to identify this song, we need more information
Let's start with when did you first hear this? Where and what genre?
Do you remember any more fragments of the song?
Sometimes even the most seemingly insignificant clue aids in the search
so what ever else you can supply will be helpful.
Let's try to find the lyrics this year!

Re: One of these days she'll hear old Gabriel play
It's been about 10 years since I heard the song. It is southern gospel. I heard it when a group came to my church in south carolina.I don't remember the group. It's kind of a funeral song.
There are two verses.
The first one talks about a lady that is dying in a hospital and one of these days she'll just fly away.
The second verse is aout a dying man at home and one of these days he'll fly away.
The chorus changes for the gender
The chorus
One of these days she'll hear old gabriel play and she'll just fly away. No she'll never again feel pain. One of these day she'll be going thru a change, she'll never be the same.
This is all that I can remember, at least for now. Thank you for any help you give.

Re: One of these days she'll hear old Gabriel play
I found these lyrics in a Bible my grandmother had left when she passed away. Could have sworn she wrote it as I couldn't find lyrics or the hymn anywhere until I saw this forum.
Here's roughly what she had written, so I imagine this is the same one you meant.
She was strumming it in key of "D" Only knew 3 chords) so D, G, A
No idea of original artist since I could have sworn it was my grandmother before seeing this haha!
Verse
His hands are old and calloused, from fifty years of work
raising beans and cotton, bringing life out of the dirt
But he don't get around, quite like he did back then
That old man knows the secret of being young again
Chorus
One of these days he's going through a change
One of these days he'll never be the same
he's going up to the place where he'll Never again feel pain
One of these days he'll hear Gabriel play, the trumpet sounds he'll fly away
he's going home to stay, one of these days
Verse
Her children are all grown
Now she's all alone
They said she'd be better off if they place her in a home
Sometimes she hears the whisper
They say her mind is gone
but she's not going crazy she's wanting to go home
Chorus
One of these days she's going through a change

Re: One of these days she'll hear old Gabriel play
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! That is the song. You are an answer to prayer. I have been looking for this song for about 6 years now.
Re: One of these days she'll hear old Gabriel play
would she have happened to have the chord written over the words? I can't remember how the verses go, so I'm hoping maybe that will help.
