Here I Am Lord

Haha...you're absolutely right. The Chorus is in response to the question "Whom Shall I Send". Thanks for the correction...boy is my face red :)

Here is the correct version:

1.
I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard my people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.

I, who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear my light to them?
Whom shall I send?

Chorus
Here am I, Lord. Is it I, Lord?
I have heard you calling in the night.
I will go, Lord, if you lead me.
I will hold your people in my heart.

2.
I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people's pain.
I have wept for love of them.
They turn away.

I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak my words to them.
Whom shall I send?

Chorus

3.
I, the Lord of wind and flame,
I will send the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them.
My hand will save.

Finest bread I will provide,
'Til their hearts be satisfied.
I will give my life to them.
Whom shall I send?

Chorus

God bless,
Steve

Hi Guest,

The words are from Isaiah 6:8.

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?'

And I said, 'Here am I. Send me!'"

Isaiah chapter 6 is the account of Isaiah's calling by God.

Hope it helps. God bless!

Thanks for this. My daughter liked the song at the church today but we didn't have something to copy the lyrics to so I told her we can get it on internet.

I really love this song. Everytime I sing or hear this song, I cry. I just don't know why. The words really get to me.
Thank you for the lyrics.

In addition to the Isaiah reference, the line "I have heard you calling in the night" alludes to a story of the prophet Samuel. In fact, this is a good song to meditate on its relationship to scripture, as it atually relates many passages to each other that we otherwise might no connect.

Peter John Stone
"The only proof we believe in miracles is taking action
when only a miracle can make a difference."
