Need 'The Old Wooden Cross' lyrics...

Post by Guest » Tue Jul 04, 2006 4:44 am

Hello, all...

I'm seeking the lyrics to the hymnal, "The Old Wooden Cross", and also a recording of this song... I need this because, as my mother lay dying, {we expect her to cross in the next few days; it's now Tuesday, July 4-2006}, she has requested that this song be sung at her funeral...

I can't find it anywhere on the net... perhaps my search skills are not that good, but still, I cannot find it, and need it so I can fulfill my mother's wishes...

Thanks to all who take a look at my request to see if they can help...

GOD Bless You, and may Peace attend thee, always and in all ways...

Need 'The Old Wooden Cross' lyrics...

Hi FaireMaiden,

I was unable to find a hymn called "The Old Wooden Cross", but there is a fairly well-known hymn by the name of "The Old Rugged Cross", which I'm guessing and hoping may be the one you're looking for.

Here is a link to the lyrics and a MIDI file to hear what it sounds like.

The Old Rugged Cross

Here are the lyrics:

1.
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
The emblem of suffering and shame;
And I love that old cross where the dearest and best
For a world of lost sinners was slain.

Refrain
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
Till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
And exchange it some day for a crown.

2.
O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
Has a wondrous attraction for me;
For the dear Lamb of God left His glory above
To bear it to dark Calvary.

Refrain

3.
In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
A wondrous beauty I see,
For 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
To pardon and sanctify me.

Refrain

4.
To the old rugged cross I will ever be true;
Its shame and reproach gladly bear;
Then He'll call me some day to my home far away,
Where His glory forever I'll share.

Refrain

I hope this is it. May the Lord watch and keep over your mother and your family, and welcome her into his loving arms.

God bless,
Steve

My nanna asked for this to be played at her funeral. I haven't heard it in almost 20 years. Thank you so much for posting it.
