my aunt use to play her guitar and sing this song to us kids back in the 1950s. it was about 2 children walk"g by the sea. they meet a boatman or capt. one of them requests to make the crossing but the other one stays behind. it's an example of crossing over the sea of death with jesus and leaving our loved ones behind. would love to find the words to it ! thanks...johnny d.

Two little children were strolling one day
Down by the river side.
One stepped up to the boatman and said,
"Row us over the tide.

Chorus:
Row us over the tide,
Row us over the tide ";
One stepped up to the boatman and said,
"Row us over the tide. "

"Be kind to us, mister, dear mother is dead;
We have no place to abide.
Our father's a gambler
and cares not for us;
Please row us over the tide.

"The angels took mother to her heavenly home,
There with the saints to abide.
Our father has forsaken us, he's left us alone;
Please row us over the tide.

"Papa and mama grew weary; one day,1
Jesus would come for their child
We are so tired of waiting so long;
Please row us over the tide. "

I'm 75 years of age. My grandmother used to sing this to me in the early 1940s. I didn't think I would ever see the lyrics anywhere. Isn't the 'net wonderful? Keep coming progress !!!

The one i know goes something like this

Two little children were walking one day
Down by the clear riverside
One of them turned to the boatman and said
Boatman row me over the tide

Row me over the tide boatman
Row me over the tide
For Jesus is waiting for me over there
Boatman row me over the tide.

Row Me Over the Tide
-Edward C Avis

Two little children were walking one day,
Down by the clear river side,
One came up to a boatman and asked,
"Row us over the tide"

Chorus:
Row us over the tide, Please row us over the tide
Loved ones are waiting for us on the strand
Row us over the tide

We are so poor and so hungry and cold
We have no place to abide,
Papa and Mama and Nellie are gone
Row us over the tide

Chorus

Dear Mama told little Charlie one day,
Jesus would care for her child,
But we are tired of waiting so long,
Row us over the tide

Chorus

Two little faces no more we shall see,
Sweetly they sleep side by side,
Jesus so full of compassion and love,
Rowed them over the tide

Chorus

Jesus who died for the rich and the poor
Answered the little ones prayer,
And He who notes every sparrow that falls,
For His own children shall care

Chorus
