Oh the birds hushed their singing at daybreak...awaiting his summons to die...

One day on a bright April morning, with the sun streaking over the sky
Stood a man with his hands tied behind him, awaiting his summons to die.

From the lovely bright places of heaven, to a place filled with sorrow and fear,
so that all of our sins stood all forgiving, Christ came and died for us here.

On the streets of the city He staggard, there unable to carry his cross, as he fell to the ground with His burden, he told of the souls that were lost.

the birds stopped their singing at sunrise, for Christ had His place to fulfill, from the lovely bright places of heaven, to a cross on a lonely dark hill.

then suddenly the heavens were darkened, ore the land where His footsteps had trod, a man looked at him and spoke softly, truly this was the Son of God.

the birds stopped their singing at sunrise, for Christ had his place to fulfill, from the lovely bright places of heaven to a cross on a lonely dark hill.

The song you are looking for is called "a cross on a lonely dark hill". The Sego brothers and Naomi recorded it on the album, "He'll walk by your side". Very hard to find.

Wayne,
RW Sawyer

Oh, thank you so much for the lyrics of this song. It is one of my favorite! I would love it if you could email the electronic format...my email is [email protected]. I'm sorry it has taken me so long to reply but I have not been able to access the website until recently.

Again, thank you so much and GOD bless!

I remember that my uncle had a record of this song in the late 1960's that he played on an old 1948 Philco combination radio/phonograph. I don't know who the artist was, but it seems like the lead vocalist was female.
I would certainly love to have a copy of it!

Thank you all so much, I haven't checked this site lately, and was so surprised to find the lyrics. I want to sing this song tomorrow at church.

Have a blessed Easter,

Dave

Bright April Morning is not a very well known song.. I have heard a few "stand-up" Church singers around here in the mountains of East Tennessee sing it and that is it.. I am not saying the song has never been printed or recorded commercially but if it has I have never heard of it..

Some refer to it as "One Day On A Bright April Morning" "Bright April Morning" and "From A Mansion To A Hill"

"Bright April Morning"

Verse 1
ONE DAY ON A BRIGHT APRIL MORNING
AS THE SUN STREAKED OVER THE SKY
STOOD A MAN WITH HIS HANDS TIED BEHIND HIM
AWAITING HIS SUMMONS TO DIE

Chorus
THE BIRDS HUSHED THEIR SINGIN AT DAYBREAK
AS CHRIST HAD HIS PLACE TO FULFILL
FROM A BEAUTFUL MANSION IN GLORY
TO A CROSS ON A LONELY DARK HILL

Verse 2
JUST AHEAD STOOD THE MOUNTAIN OF CALVARY
WHERE CHRIST WAS TO TASTE HIS BITTER CUP
ONE COULD HEAR THE HAMMERS RINGIN IN THE STILLNESS
THEN THE SOLDIERS A' LIFTIN HIM UP

End with Chorus
THE BIRDS HUSHED THEIR SINGIN AT DAYBREAK
AS CHRIST HAS A CUP TO FULFILL
FROM A BEAUTIFUL MANSION IN HEAVEN
TO A CROSS ON A LONELY DARK HILL

Oh the birds hushed their singing at daybreak...awaiting his summons to die...

Hi I am new to this site.. I know the song that you are looking for well.. There was an older gentleman in my home Church of Pilgrims FWB in Erwin, TN who sang it for years and I use to play the mandolin on it for him.. We always knew the song as "Bright April Morning" and I have no knowledge of the tune being in print anywhere nor of it being recorded by anyone commercially.
I have the lyrics and I have a Church recording of the song being sang. It is in electronic WMA format on my computer. If you like I can email it to you..

Wayne
