Christmas song - long ago before there was reindeer

Years ago I heard a song on the radio and have been trying to find the song or who sings it. Part of the chorus is "long ago before there was reindeer and santa claus a brand new star shined in the night, the baby Jesus He was born that's what Christmas day is for" Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I know the entire first verse and chorus. Think I know the title. Still unsure of the artist. Desperately need to find this song, too!

This song plays at the Kmart radio station all the time! I've searched the lyrics everywhere and I get no results! Can't figure out the title or artist... I really want to know the name of this song as well. I know the chorus ends with "he is the reason for the season." but when I search that all I get is Lonestar lyrics, and it is not a Lonestar song.
