Welcome Back Jesus Lyrics
(Johnny Cash)
© '72 Song Of Cash Music, ASCAP

Lord if you should be looking down at little me
I just like to say I'm trying to stay upon the right track
But Lord the way gets hard temptation's come and I sure get tired
But I'm watching for you like you told me to and welcome back

Welcome back Jesus welcome back Jesus
I'm watching for your light to shine like you said it would shine when you come
Welcome back Jesus welcome back Jesus
I hope you will see and recognize me and then take me home

Welcome back Jesus...
Welcome back Jesus welcome back Jesus

Note:
I'm not sure this is what you are looking for. It's on a Johnny Cash Album entitled ANY OLD WIND THAT BLOWS. I'll keep looking and see if i can find a song with some of the other words you have listed.

this is not the song that i'm looking for, but thanks so much. i think the first verse goes something like...One glorious day in bethlehem was the first time Jesus came he left himself up off the world and it's never been the same he said i'm going to go away, but i'll be back someday when the angels shout and the trumpet sounds brother i'll be leaving here.... i think this is how it goes. i don't know the last verse. i hope this helps. God bless! sherry

1. On Christmas Day in Bethlehem was the first time Jesus cam
He left His stamp upon the land, it's never been the same
And then one day He took His men upon the mount to pray
He said I'm gonna go away but I'm coming back some day

Chorus: Welcome bank, Jesus You've been gone so long
Welcome back Jesus come and take us home
Do you see our banners waving? Can you hear what we ae saying?
Welcome back, Jesus, is our song

2. Before our Master went away He taught us how to pray
He told us what would come to pass before that final day
As a cloud received Him from their sight two men appeared in white
and said this same Jesus which is gone away will come again some day

Repeat Chorus:

3. On that glorious day when Jesus comes, there'll be trouble in all the land
Like the days that were before the flood, it's happening again
When these things begin to come to pass we'll know the end is near
When the archangel shouts and the trumpet sounds
Brother I'll be leavin' here

Repeat Chorus:

Thank you so much. I've been looking for this song for years. The group that sang it came to our church in Biloxi Mississippi and I bought the 8-track, which quickly wore out and also became obsolete. I've since moved to Kansas and have search everywhere with no luck until tonight. GREAT!!!!!!!
Could you tell me who wrote the song and when?
Thanks

This song is a favorite of mine. I have been looking for this song as well and could only remember the first verse. My family was a gospel-singing group in the late 70s called God's Family Singers and this is one of the songs that we sang. I was a little girl at the time, which is why I cannot remember the words. Our group sang a lot of songs that the Happy Goodmans, The Rambos, The Blackwood Brothers and the Statler Brothers sang and this song may have come from one of their albums. It has the feeling of a song that might have been written by Dottie Rambo. I will keep researching the subject and will post what I find. Thank-you for posting this.
