second song for my grandma

Post by ckbymommy » Sat Jul 19, 2008 6:49 pm

The second song that I'm looking for for my grandmothers memory album is the real toughy.

I am looking for a song that was on the radio late 2004 and into 2005. It was a traditional hymn recorded (I think) by a christian rock band. The lead singer has a really deep voice.

My grandma died November 2004 and the song was on the radio a lot at that time and it always made me think of her. Now I'm wanting to create a memory album about her and include the lyrics in the journalling. For some reason I can't think of any of the lyrics or even the tune.

second song for my grandma

This was sung by someone with a very deep voice. The song had a harder edge. If anyone even knows a rock/hard rock christian band with a singer with a deep voice, please let me know so I can listen to some of their songs from discs released in '04 or '03 on itunes and hopefully find the song I'm looking for.

Thanks

second song for my grandma

I FIGURED IT OUT!!

It is 'Blessed Assurance' by Third Day from Next Door Savior
I actually figured it out this morning on the way to church - the radio played a swing version of the song - I think the DJ said it was from a Women of Faith cd.

Anyway, Third Day was one of the first bands I thought of, but I couldn't find it on any of their albums, turns out it was on a 'variouis artists' album.

I ended up doing the layout of my grandma using the lyrics from "Homesick" by MercyMe, it was anoher song that was on a lot when she died, and made me think of her for obvious reasons. Blessed Assurance was one that I always remember her sitting at her piano singing. They featured "Have You Been To Calvary" at her funeral, my aunts thought it was her favorite - but I always thought "Blessed Assurance" was one of her favorites.

Anyway - thanks to everyone who tried to help - even if you didn't post and were racking your brain for me.

Here's the layout that I made if anyone wants to look
Homesick

Plus one that I made of my other Grandma which features her favorite poem "footprints"
Footprints

I still have many more to make to complete my memory album of my grandma - but this one was probably the hardest (maybe - though, the other one I made of her was super hard as well) I suppose I will have to make another and feature "Blessed Assurance" since I spent so much time and so many tears trying to figure it out.

Here are the lyrics:
1. Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
born of his Spirit, washed in his blood.
Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long;
this is my story, this is my song,
praising my Savior all the day long.

2. Perfect submission, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
angels descending bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
(Refrain)

3. Perfect submission, all is at rest;
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
watching and waiting, looking above,
filled with his goodness, lost in his love.
(Refrain)
