Wedding Garment Song

Post by soule2soule » Thu Jul 21, 2005 3:00 am

Hi,
I need some info for a friend. He is looking for a song with something about a wedding garment in it. He has the chorus and I can send it in later, but I just thought while I was here, I would give it a try. I will try to get the chorus tomorrow. If possible, I need the music to this song as he needs it to play for a service. The last time anyone remembers hearing it was years ago at a funeral if that helps.
thanks for any help

Hi :) Yes, the chorus would definitely help--there are quite a few songs and hymns about wedding garments out there :)

Thanks,
Steve

Hi again,
Here is what we have:
This old world will never hold me.
In a moment, I'll be gone.
For I've made my preparations and my wedding garment is on.

Hope to hear from you soon.

We have the sheet music for this at church. It was written by Mabel (Johnson)Mathias probably in the 1950's. I was published in 1960 as author unknown. Contact someone at www. bcog.cc and they should be able to put you in the right direction. Mabel's decedents attend BCOG and should have the complete song.

I really like the idea of having someone bagpipe the song Canon in D for a wedding processional. Though I think that it has been done a little too common already.

Though I would also like to incorporate a few original compositions in the mix and some of the suggestions here seem to be really viable options. The Cathedrals are also known to be thrown right in the mix.

Mabel Mathias was my great aunt. My mother and aunts and uncle sung it from the time they were kids in the 1940's. Numerous people have asked for the words. Just wanted to drop a line and say Thank You for appreciating the song. I grew up hearing it and it has a special place in my heart!

Verse 1). When the angel blows the trumpet, all the dead in Christ shall rise
And the waiting saints shall join them, at that meeting in the skies.

Verse 2). Brothers, sisters, are you watching? Any moment He may come.
Keep your lamps all trimmed and burning, and be sure your wedding garment's on.
(Melody same as chorus)
This old world will never hold me, any moment I'll be gone
For I've made my consecration, and I have my wedding garment on.

This song has blessed the Bethalto Church of God for over 65 years.
